Deviled Egg Salad and Hot Chocolate

My Grandma Tuma was a wise woman. A wise woman with a sweet tooth. She was a firm believer in that old quote about eating your dessert before your dinner  because of the uncertainty of life. She passed away when I was young but left quite a legacy behind her: she loved to read (both my Grandmas encouraged my reading), gave the greatest hugs, always wore Estee Lauder’s White Linen perfume, and dipped her egg salad sandwiches in her hot chocolate.

Yes. You read that right.

I have tried this a couple of times and..well, I stand by my first statement. My Grandma was a wise woman. My favorite thing about this little habit of hers was that my Grandma was not otherwise wacky or quirky as far as I know. She was a pretty traditional woman. So I love that she had this weird little habit; it makes me wonder what other wimsy was going on behind that calm, English countenance.

Last night I made deviled eggs for a Halloween party at work according to this recipe (except I used dill relish and only 1/3 cup of mayo) but I couldn’t fit two of the eggs into the plate. Good thing I love love love hard boiled eggs: I just squirreled those bad boys away in the fridge. I didn’t actually get to eat any of the eggs I made because they were a big hit so I was thinking maybe I would make two deviled eggs for myself when I got home. But then I thought maybe I’d rather make egg salad. (I start thinking about what I’m going to eat for dinner at around 10 o’clock in the morning.) And then it hit me: deviled egg salad! Instead of separating whites from yolks, I’m going to chop up the eggs like you do for egg salad. Then I’ll mix in the deviled egg ingredients and whip it up! That’s when I remembered I have hot chocolate at home and I nearly died of joy. Tonight, while I wait for trick or treaters, I’m going to eat deviled egg salad dipped in hot chocolate. Sometimes my genius frightens me.

Author’s note: I’m a little afraid this may be a pride cometh before the fall kind of moment. Like since I haven’t made this recipe yet, it’s pretty bold of me to post it hear and then laud my own genius. I will update soon and let you know how it goes.

Another author’s note: It was awesome, I totally rule! Oh, and the other change I made to that deviled eggs recipe is crushed red pepper flakes instead of hot sauce. I also garnish with red pepper flakes instead of paprika.
